Elite Training Models & Ammunition Art

Designed by a former forensic firearms scientist. Built for understanding, safety, and impact.

Ballistic Concepts creates inert, exploded cartridge displays that reveal how ammunition actually works — from primer to projectile. Each model transforms a complex internal process into a clear, hands-on visual experience, making them ideal for education, training, and serious collectors.

Built From Real-World Experience

Before Ballistic Concepts existed, I worked in a forensic firearms laboratory, where explaining ammunition function was a routine part of the job, particularly in regards to courtroom testimony. One challenge surfaced again and again: people struggled to visualize what actually happens inside a cartridge at the moment of firing—especially those with little or no firearms background. You'd be surprised how many people have only ever seen a firearm in the of the movies.

Posters and diagrams weren’t enough. What was missing was a durable, hands-on visual aid that could clearly show each component, how it fits together, and how the system functions as a whole.

So I built one.

From Concept to Craft

Early designs failed...and comically. Some weren’t durable enough. Others weren’t visually clear. Through trial, testing, and refinement, I developed a model that was:

  • Fully inert and safe to handle
  • Durable enough for repeated handling
  • Precise enough for professional instruction
  • Striking enough to stand alone as display art

When colleagues began asking where they could buy one, Ballistic Concepts was born.

What Makes These Displays Different

Each model is hand-made in the Syracuse, NY, USA using real cartridge components that are permanently modified to prevent reuse and expanded along a central axis to show their natural order and relationship inside live ammunition.

Key design principles include:

  • 100% inert construction — no live primers or combustible material
  • Proprietary bonded powder simulation for long-term durability
  • Minimalist solid design for strength and longevity
  • Patent-protected construction developed specifically for training and display

These models are safe to handle, ship, and display worldwide, making them suitable for classrooms, offices, armories, and private collections.

More Than a Display

Ballistic Concepts models are used by:

  • Firearms and ballistics educators
  • Military and law enforcement trainers
  • Forensic professionals
  • Hunters and long-range shooters
  • Collectors who value precision and craftsmanship

Whether used as a teaching tool or a statement piece in the home or office, each display is built to inform, endure, and stand out. They are subtle, but say a lot.

Built by Hand, One at a Time

Every display is individually assembled with care and attention to detail. While the process is meticulous, it’s intentional — and it’s what ensures each piece meets the standard I originally needed in the field.

Thanks for supporting independent craftsmanship and purposeful design.
